The Facebook accelerator is a program started by Facebook to start supporting African innovators to build a deep tech solution to world problems. They welcome a lot of crazy ideas as long as you can see a future for the idea.
There are certain sectors they are interested in growing with the new Facebook accelerator program. I doubt that seventy percent of Africa’s population knows about this feature yet. This is one of the reasons I decided to write out this article and build awareness among our fellow Africans.

I think the Facebook accelerator program would be a major change in the economy of Africa. With this, Africa can only grow if they are united. I believe this content is going somewhere but we have to work together to achieve this goal.
Facebook accelerator already has the vision to create the future with deep technology like we have been seeing in movies. We are talking about artificial intelligence and other real technology developments here.
The Facebook accelerator is a six months mentorship and research program that is driven by visionary and innovative teams. The aim of this mentorship and research is to create solutions using advanced technology. I am sure you would agree with me when I say the coronavirus plague has really done a number on the world.
Supporting Categories of the Facebook Accelerator Program
This program is built to support two major categories of teams. These teams are onsite acceleration teams usually for start-up teams and virtual acceleration teams usually for student teams. This basically means almost anyone’s idea is welcomed.
The onsite acceleration team is designed for startup teams with the existing product and who already have customers or are ready to market the products.
The virtual acceleration on the other hand is for students who already have working prototypes or the technical expertise required to build the intended solution. This program is targeting mostly Ghanaian and Nigerian students.

- Data science.
- IoT (internet of things).

- VR (Virtual reality).
These are the areas of problem Facebook is looking to leverage using the accelerator program.
Why Should You Apply for Africa’s Deep-Tech Accelerator?
What are the reasons why you need to apply for this deep tech accelerator in Africa? Well, I believe there are a lot of great minds in our nation today but they lack the means to come out with the idea. I really recommend applying for this program Facebook is launching.
This program is very similar to the Facebook marathon but instead of just Facebook workers and being limited to Facebook ideas, everyone is allowed and almost every idea is welcomed. Here are some reasons why I think you should apply for the Facebook accelerator.
- Access to customized and practical learning sessions.
- Access to innovation week and corporates.
- Mentorship for a dedicated Facebook mentor.
- You get to be matched with experts in certain industries.
- You get one-on-one support from in-house experts.
These are some of the reasons why I think you should apply for this program.
How to Apply
Well, this program hasn’t started yet in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and all. This means there is no way to sign up until further notice.
